Why Does The Ganking Continue?

Well, that is simple. There are a few reasons. For one, the gankers get to play for free using extortion money, and botting like mad once the miners have been chased off. Another reason is that the devs probably make more $$$ from ganked players buying plex and selling it to replace their stuff.

But really... honestly... why does this work? Well, a lot of people in High Security Space do complain, bitch, and moan about it all. But by the very same token, they don't want to work together even in the face of these troubles.

So what does that mean at the end of the day? The gankers work together, and the victims refuse to. That is how and why 1% of the eve population control the rest... And that, is just plain stupid gone wild. Its as dumb as the dev corruption with the goons is disgusting. Its as dump as the devs making more money off player abuse than subscriptions is disgusting.

Until The Next Time, Fly Safe!

Eve Online Plex Specials?

Come one come all! 1, 8, or 30 Plex now on sale!

Buy them now to replace all your ganked stuff so you can go out and get ganked again!

Keep CCP Rich, and keep the Goons and New Order in business.... Oh wait... there's no difference!

Have you ever noticed that once a mass ganking spree starts, there are huge plex specials every time you launch eve? Or the other way around... there is a set of specials advertised, and then the ganking starts?

Have you ever wondered... Where do they make more money... subscriptions, and plex for subscriptions? Or... from ganked people buying plex to sell so they can replace their stuff?

Have you ever wondered.... Maybe the Goons are just another incarnation of BOB? And perhaps.. the Dev corruption never stopped, but instead got legitimized by making the Player run Council Of Stellar Management and surprisingly (NOT) having the leader of the goons as the Chairman of that council?

Eve Online - ReWrite The EULA?

Clearly the developers have put forward an EULA that has been through I don't want to guess how many lawyers. And I surely wouldn't want to mess with that. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like a really stupid thing to do. Which brings me to the point.

As I've been mentioning, a new group is harassing, extorting, and overall bullying the Eve Online miners in Hi Sec.

This group has also seen fit to declare the EULA ineffective, and have written their own version of what is acceptable conduct in game. http://www.minerbumping.com/p/the-code.html

Ok, so lets put this into perspective. The guy behind this is a worshipper of the Goons. Fairly obvious. Reports have it that the leader of the Goons is in real life a lawyer. So... here we have an in game leader, former head of the CSM, and a person that drunkenly tries to inspire people to push an unstable player to suicide. Now we have him endorsing and supporting a person who is putting forward his own version of the EULA?

How far out of control does it sound like these people are? And even more frighteningly, how many more weeks or months are the developers going to let these people try to force a modified version of the EULA down player's throats. If nothing else, you'd think the developers would at least protect their EULA even if they decide to continue allow wanton player abuse.... Really... Sad just doesn't cover this situation..

Till the next time, Fly Safe :)

To the Devs: Eve is a great game. You've done a hell of a job building it and maintaining it. I just hope that these words will ring a bell. Its a sandbox yes... and people can do what they want... but surely there must be some limits?

Additional Intel On The Hi Sec Gankers

Check out this website for more information on the gankers tormenting miners and extorting Hi Sec Residents in Eve Online. http://www.halaimacode.com/

Note the last time I checked this website in the in game browser it barely worked... They actually pride themselves on killing defenceless targets lol. Guess in their eve lives all they've been able to accomplish is extorting and abusing defenceless mining ships... an impressive career I must admit... LOL Not....

With The Ganking & Corrpution, Is It Still Worth Playing?

To be honest with you, the only answer can be... it depends.

Surely not for everyone. But then, no game is worth playing for everyone. And hopefully... with a little luck, things will start to slowly change in Eve.

It is still the most massive online server, remember all players are on the same server at the same time. And the game universe itself is incredibly massive. The skills, the choices, all of the options and effort they have put into have indeed made it an epic game.

Whether or not it will become more worth playing, or it will go the way of the Dinosaurs will be up to the developers. Future expansions, and perhaps even updates to help curb the wanton abuse of players.

Only time will tell how this saga will go...

The Endless Cyber Bullying Exposed - Part 1

Here is another example of the slaughter of peaceful miners by bullies trying to extort the peaceful mining community of Eve Online's High Security Space.

http://eve-kill.net/?a=alliance_detail&all_id=8359

Take a good look at that. Combat ships flying in and suicide ganking mostly defenceless mining ships including many ships normally flown by rookies, aka new or very young players.

The Slaughter Of Defenseless Mining Ships Continues In Hi Sec

As another example of the extreme cowardice of the gankers tormenting pilots in Eve Online's Hi Security systems can been seen in this kill report. http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=15998641

As you will notice it was an industrial command ship, with no offensive capacity at all. Destroyed by a large number of gutless suicide gankers flying Destroyers. The loss for the defenceless and peaceful miner was over 700 million. According to witness reports the attack happened so fast the automated police didn't even respond. Very unusual, that automated police response, triggered on an illegal attack... never responded? A glitch in the code perhaps, or perhaps the thought the miner might spend $30 USD to buy and sell plex to make up for his losses had something to do with the total failure of the automated police response....

More reports on the Cyber Bullying in eve online will follow as more details arise.

The Downside To Eve Online

There are a few downsides to the game. The biggest downside at this time would be that one of the most profitable pastimes in the game is tormenting and extorting other players.

While the game is divided into different 'Security Ratings', this doesn't really help you against player aggression. Low Sec, Null Sec, and Wormholes are pretty much the lawless lands where anything goes.

But most players are in Hi Sec. And most of the abuse, extortion and Cyber Bullying happens in Hi Sec.

Unfortunately there seems to be a relative lack of action on behalf of the developers to deal with this matter, saying simply that it is a sandbox game and people can do what they want.

There is a 'Council Of Stellar Management' that was born as a player run council to interact with the developers after a major scandal was uncovered proving the developers were favoring one player group above the others, Band Of Brothers. Thus was born the CSM.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the CSM is anything more than obvious and legitimate corruption. About 1.5% of the reported Eve accounts vote. And the vast majority of them are 'The Goons', one of the largest player abuse and extortion groups in the game. Many of the members of 'BOB' as they were called in short joined the Goons and thus the legacy of favoritism continues.

Perhaps the most disturbing factor about the game is that the extortion and abuse can be seen to directly profit the developers. Plex is a 'Pilot Lisence Extension'. This item you buy from the developers and can use in game to extend your subscription. You can also buy these in game with in game money, or sell them in game for in game money.

I've seen thousands of dollars spent by people that have been tormented and repeated extorted and killed in game buying these items with real world money. Why? Many of them don't play a great deal because they have lives other than sitting in front of the computer. And after they refuse to pay some punk to not kill them, they get their ship destroyed along with their capsule which is their life boat. To be able to continue playing at the same level, having just lost most of what they owned, and their main method of playing the game, they use their credit cards to buy Plex and then sell them for in game money. This happening of course, in Hi Security Space. Yes, the police 'Concord' do respond to such illegal attacks. After your extremely expensive Mining Barge is destroyed, plus your clone and implants with your pod, Concord arrives and destroys the attackers and their dirt cheap suicide ships.

Now the Goons, do live in Null Sec. But they ply their trade of extortion and 'Suicide Ganking' (blowing you up as described above) in High Security Space. Perhaps what makes matters worse is that the leader of the Goons was leader of the CSM for a few years in a row until at a live broadcast event, drunk as a skunk, he tried to inspire people to make a potentially suicidal player kill himself. For this disgusting act he was given a one month ban from the game, and he stepped down as leader of the CSM.

Please note, that if you are caught using a bot (a macro that runs your eve game for you) to mine so that you can make isk without really playing the game, you can get a life ban. Compare that to the statement above.

So far very little has been done regarding player abuse and extortion in High Security Space because Eve is a sandbox and people can pretty much do anything they want except use programs to play the game for them. And sadly, as long as player abuse profits the developers in real world money, its a sad state of affairs.

Of course, the other side to this is that I've seen hundreds upon hundreds of people quit the game because of this harassment and abuse. So it makes them cash, but costs them cash in people that quit and will never come back. Think about it... do you want to pay to play a game where a bunch of punks will extort, harass, and abuse you without any recourse?

Here is a link to the Goon website where you can see what the largest most powerful alliance in the game is all about: GoonFleet.com

There is also another group of note. These people are taking the ganking and abuse one step further. This site's propaganda is quite disgusting, and the leader of it all makes himself out to be some kind of messiah. Please note that while they make claims to be trying to reduce the use of macros and bots, you can find their allies and associates mining ice all day and night in the ice belts other players have been bullied out of. They talk one game, and they sure play another one. They even have the nerve to make a claim that the official EULA isn't adequate, so they will force players to follow a better one.
Check this sick crap out: www.minerbumping.com

Now if you put the two groups together, they may total 5000-6000 players of the supposed 500,000 (roughly) active accounts. 1% of the players... and they effectively bully people into spending a fortune of real world money to recoup their losses in game, and have managed control of the player council for at least a few years.

Clearly the time is coming... will the 1% be the only % that remains in game? Will consideration and balance ever come for the other 99%? Or will the abuse and push to make these players go to null sec and play that way win out? Is there a future, long term, on a larger scale, for an online game that openly allows wanton abuse of the players? How will a company fair in the long run when a large amount of their player base is abused, extorted, and worst of all, in their suffering, making money for the developers?

Eve Online is the most complex and massive game I have seen in my life. It has the potential for growth beyond reason. There is so much to do you could play for a decade and not see or do most of it... But the problems are perhaps as epic as its potential. And so far, the rotten components are thriving and killing the rest, potentially taking the games overall potential with it.

Until the next time, Fly Safe :)

Ps: Cyber Bullying is quickly become a very serious crime in many countries... makes you wonder how it can be one of the most profitable pastimes in an online game doesn't it?

The Upside Of Eve Online

The upside to Eve Online is that it is a very rich and engaging game. There are tons of professions that you can try. Thousands of items that you can build and experiment with. You can easily spend years learning and enjoying the game, and still keep finding new things, and still unlock new ships and skills.

Most items in game are made by players. From ammo, to ships, to player structures, there is an incredible amount of variety. The game also comes with an impressive invention and blueprint improvement system.

Another interesting feature of the game is that you can pay for your game time in game using in game money called isk.

All players play on the same server, at the same time. If your hours of play change, it doesn't really matter much because there are always other people around.

About The Author

Greetings,

I have been an Eve Online player for a few years now. I have tasted the most common aspects of the game and have decided that sharing my experiences may well be of great benefit to newer players.

For those of you who don't really know much about Eve Online, here is a brief outline of the game.

You start off as a relatively unskilled pilot with very little to your name. However, there are a great many ways to proceed in the massive universe. You can be a peaceful miner, a combat mission runner, an explorer, a player vs player combat pilot, or many other things. You can even get into science and research advanced technology and build  and sell items in game. The options are almost limitless.

The game space is divided into multiple factions and includes various types of security space. There is Hi Sec, Low Sec, Null Sec, and Wormhole Systems. Sec meaning Security.

Looking at the population and activity maps in game its fairly easy to tell that the most popular region at this time is High Security Space.

Throughout this blog I will take you through my journey and experiences which took me through those different areas of the game, and the different play styles that they require.
